Web Site Summary – 2012

Whatever you’re doing, people are interested in it!

www.suburban23505.com

SACL Graph LogoThe Suburban Acres Civic League Web site had about 2300 individual views in 2012 through December 9th, according to Word Press, our site host.  WordPress.com is a free, easy-to-use, blog-style site; the civic league pays a modest site hosting fee each year.

Many visitors were referred from internet search engines (searching on our civic league or neighborhood name).

  • WardsCornerNow.com and Facebook were the two top-referring Web sites with direct referrals (we have links on both sites).
  • 1805 of our 2400 views originated within the United States; the rest were from 31 other countries.

We intend to keep adding to and improving the web site.

Our blog-style web site is not conducive to posting and allowing browsing among multiple pictures.  SACL at one time had photos posted in slide shows (Microsoft PowerPoint format) on a site called slide.com; unfortunately that site has closed its doors.

CAMERA-EASEL PICWe are now posting photos of our events and activities on www.slideshare.net/suburbanacres.   We started posting on slideshare with pictures from the annual 4th of July parade and picnic, and since have posted pictures from Halloween in the neighborhood, and flooding and damage from Hurricane Sandy.

In our first year of posting on slideshare.net we received more than 1400 views!  1179 of those visits were to the slide show of hurricane flooding.

So stand by for more posts and pictures.  If you take great pictures of the neighborhood that you would like to share, please send them to suburbanacres@gmail.com

Santa at Halloween??? Yes!  It’s Santa Owen!  Spooky! Thanks, Kiernan family, for the Halloween photos.  Hurricane Sandy might’ve blown away Harvest Fest this year, but the weather was clear enough for trick-or-treating.

All the photos are posted on slideshare.net at:

By the way, we’ve had MORE THAN 1000 VIEWS of our July 4th Parade/Picnic and Hurricane Sandy pictures on slideshare!

Here’s the special Hurricane Sandy edition (November) of The Suburban…just before the ‘noreaster hits!  Stay safe, warm, and dry while reading about our October shenanagins.

This month’s meeting is Monday evening November 12th, which is observed as Veterans Day.  Since Suburban Park Elementary is closed for Veterans Day, we are meeting at Norfolk Collegiate School (use the Suburban Parkway entrance).  Doors open with refreshments at 6 pm; meeting starts at 6:30.

Please bring non-perishable food items for the Suburban Park Elementary holiday food drive, which benefits needy students at SPE.  We’ll also make the league’s holiday cash presentation to SPE, which again this year is being matched dollar-for-dollar by the Zenarolla Family and Tinee Giant Food Stores.

Our guest speaker is Randy Wright, who will delve into regional transportation issues.  See you there!

Pictures on slideshare.net

Congratulations to the photogenic residents of Suburban Acres!  Our slide show with pictures from the annual 4th of July parade and picnic reached 100 ‘views’ last week on slideshare.net.  The blog-style format of our neighborhood web site doesn’t led itself particularly well to uploading multiple pictures, so I put a slide show of 4th of July pics on slideshare.  I just now uploaded some pictures taken this morning shortly after our highest tide of Hurricane Sandy…here’s the link:

Lafayette River just almost reaches Kirby Crescent after high tide this morning, Monday Oct. 29. This shot is looking from Kirby across a branch of the Lafayette toward Gunn Court.

See you this Saturday!

Come out and bring your best crock pot recipe (we’ll provide the electricity!) vote on the best crock-pot dish, and cheer on the kids’ costume contest…Crafts and neighborhood fun.  Suburban Acres Civic League Neighborhood Harvest Festival, this Saturday afternoon 2-4 pm at Suburban Park Elementary School.  See you there!

October 2012 Suburban Acres Newsletter

The Suburban is here for October!

This month’s civic league meeting is Monday evening October 8thWe are back at Norfolk Collegiate School (enter on the Suburban Parkway side) since Suburban Park Elementary is closed for Columbus Day.  Our guest speaker is Brent Johnson, a prosecutor from the Norfolk Commonwealths Attorney’s Office.  Doors open with refreshments at 6 pm; meeting starts at 6:30.

Also, the owners of the new Sal’s Pizza (former Delvecchio’s location at corner of Virginian Drive & East Little Creek Road) will be at the meeting to meet their new neighbors.  The brothers have a great back-story; read about them at www.wardscornernow.com.  Your president has already tried the Stromboli, and it comes highly recommended.

In the interest of keeping you informed your president also visited The Pancake House for breakfast on Saturday Oct. 6th to collect intel on the implementation of their new liquor license (the owners will be serving Mimosas, Bloody Marys, etc. with a full service bar for brunch). I had the honey-wheat Belgian Waffle and bacon so I would blend in with the breakfast crowd and learned that the actual ABC license hasn’t been delivered yet, but they are expecting it the week of Oct. 8th.
