October General Meeting Recap: Crock-pot Cookoff and Candidate Forum

The meeting was extremely well-attended.  Candidates on the ballot for the upcoming elections were in attendance and addressed the membership!  Members had a great opportunity to hear from and interact with the candidates.

We had a great turnout for the Crock-pot Cook-off and another year of fabulous dishes prepared by members!  There is some serious cooking talent in our community!

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who brought dishes and contributed to such a great event.

  • Crock-pot Cook-off Results:
    • 1st Place: Gabriel & Helen Kinnison – Veggie Chili
    • 2nd Place: Ann Owens – Beans and Beef
    • Special Recognition: Marissa O’Neill – Chocolate Lava Cake
    • Other food:  Thanks to everyone else who brought delicious slow-cooked dishes (Everett Leseberg, Joan Wilson, and Dave and Kathryn Hunter); cornbread (Pearl Windle and Karen Mayne); and desserts (Noelle Gabriel and JoAnn Powell). And many thanks to Harris Teeter for its donation of gift certificates.

We’ll see everyone again at the Holiday Party in December!

Suburban Acres Civic League Meeting, Monday, September 9, 2019

Speakers:     Andria McClellan, Norfolk City Council, Super Ward 6

Representatives of Norfolk Departments of Utilities and Public Works will give reports on sewer, stormwater, and water line projects around Yorktown Drive and Wards Corner.  We especially invite residents of the Yorktown Drive/Louisiana Drive streets to attend for important information about fixing the sewer problem.

When:           6:30 pm, Monday, September 9, 2019

Doors open at 6:00 pm for refreshments and socializing.

Where:         Suburban Park Elementary School, 310 Thole Street

June 2019 General Meeting Minutes

The minutes from the June 2019 SACL General Meeting have been finalized and can be viewed at the Meeting Minutes area of our website.

The June Meeting was a great event.  Mayor Kenny Alexander and School Board Chair Noelle Gabriel spoke to the membership and both hung around after to answer questions and interact with members.  There was a palpable energy at this meeting with many topics covered.  Both Ms. Gabriel and Mayor Alexander spoke about tackling big issues and how the city is working through challenges.  See the meeting minutes for a full breakdown of topics discussed.

Please come out for our next meeting on July 8, 2019 at Norfolk Collegiate where the guest speakers will be Greg Bockheim from the Norfolk Zoo as well as Norfolk Fire Chief, Michael Brooks.

May 6, 2014 Municipal General Election

The neighborhoods of Suburban Acres, Suburban Park, Granby Park, Glen Echo Shores, Bollingbrook, Cromwell Farms, and Ellsworth vote at Precinct No. 215, Suburban Park Elementary School, 310 Thole Street.

Voters in Precinct 215 will cast ballots for Mayor, and Ward 2 City Councilperson.

100th State House of Delegates Special Election Tuesday Feb. 25th

A special election to fill the seat of former Delegate Lynwood Lewis (now a state senator) will be held on Tuesday February 25th.  Army veteran and Eastern Shore businessman Willie C. Randall won the Democratic primary on February 1st.  Eastern Shore businessman Robert Bloxom Jr. won the Republican nomination at an Eastern Shore mass meeting on February 8th.  For more about the candidates, click here to see our Special Election Page.

The Suburban Acres, Suburban Park, Granby Park, Glen Echo Shores, Bollingbrook, Cromwell Farms, and Ellsworth neighborhoods vote at Suburban Park Elementary School (Precinct 215), 310 Thole Street.

Polls are open 6 am to 7 pm.

UPDATE-100th District House of Delegates Special Election

The special election to fill the seat of former Delegate Lynwood Lewis will be held on Tuesday February 25th.  We have updated our 100th District Special Election page with information on the Republican Committee nominating caucus, a mass meeting, this Saturday (Feb. 8th) at Nandua High School, 26350 Lankford Highway, Onley, at 2:30 pm. Registration starts at 1:30 pm.  We’ve also updated the page with information abut the two Republican caucus candidates, Melody Scalley and Robert Bloxom Jr.
