In addition to the email notifications and this website, Suburban Acres Civic League is now posting four (4) meeting signs (seen below) to give neighbors a gentle reminder. Beginning in January, the Civic League will meet at Suburban Park Elementary on the second Monday of EACH month. (A vote in January will be held to move the time up to 6:30PM)
Sign Locations:
* Thanks to those neighbors who are helping to manage the display of the signs.
The board is looking into procuring a couple more signs to cover the Granby Park – Fife St area.
* The attractive signs were created by Suburban Acres’ own Elizabeth Emmons (owner of Bayview Signs).

Suburban Park Elementary is organizing a food drive with the goal to make 30 baskets to ensure needy families in their school have a wonderful feast to celebrate this Thanksgiving. The Civic League will be supporting this food drive, and we ask the members of our community to help us out. We will collect canned goods at the November 10th Civic League meeting and we will be making additional donations, such as turkeys, potatoes, onions, fruit, and pies.
If you would like to make an additional contribution to this cause, please contact your Civic League by emailing suburbanacres@gmail.com, or call Tim Fox @ 338-0439.
Thank you for your generosity!

You’ve seen them all over Norfolk, decorated with many creative and unique designs; each representing something symbolic of its location. Norfolk’s mermaids add a sense of beauty, art, and city-pride. Suburban Acres is launching an initiative to embellish our neighborhood with one of these beautiful icons of a great city!
In your evening stroll through the neighborhood, you’ve probably noticed the three-foot 2D mermaid awarded to the ‘Yard of the Month’. It was crafted by Suburban Acres’ own Jack Sanderling, and beautifully hand painted by Chris Alexander.
Now imagine a full-sized 3D Norfolk Mermaid representing our lovely neighborhood!
Stay tuned for announcements regarding 1) fund raisers to purchase the mermaid, 2) location designation, and 3) a contest for the design idea.
The initial fund raiser is by way of the 1st Annual SACL Golf Tournament in October. All proceeds will go toward the project. Donations from our community are also being accepted for the mermaid fund. Checks can be made to ‘Suburban Acres Civic League’, with ‘Mermaid Fund’ in the memo. Contact Bruce Larson for details.
