GROW Youth Leadership Development Scholarship

Rising high school juniors and seniors who are residents of Suburban Park/Suburban acres or who attend school at Granby High School, Norfolk Christian Schools, or Norfolk Collegiate are eligible for a scholarship for SACL’s GROW Summer-Fall Youth Leadership Development Program.GROWmasthead

Interested in government, business, volunteerism, political science, or community development?  This scholarship funds tuition and registration fees for the following three activities /program areas  through the summer and fall:

eXcel July 17-19, 2013…  

A program of LEAD Hampton Roads and the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, eXcel’s goal is to prepare youth for leadership positions within the community and region.

14th Annual Virginia Statewide Neighborhood Conference September 19-20, 2013…Virginia Beach Resort Hotel & Conference Center.

Civics Comes Home to Norfolk, August 8 noon-8 pm and other dates to be announced…

The eXcel program focuses on business, creativity, and entrepreneurship; the VSNC focus is on neighborhood and community development. The Suburban Acres Civic League will offer two activities during the summer (dates TBA) focusing on local community groups and their interaction with local government and business. How does knowledge of civics, finance, and government operations help to get things done by leveraging politics and support from the community and business?  Missions and challenges of not-for-profit organizations, and how they help government will be highlighted, along with mentorship by community leaders and opportunity for one-on-one discussions with local business and government leaders.

Application deadline is June 21, 2013.  Mail applications to 549 Carl Street, Norfolk VA 23505 or scan and email to suburbanacres@gmail.com.
