DELAYS IN REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION
SOME NORFOLK RESIDENTS MAY STILL EXPERIENCE DELAYS
IN REFUSE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION
Norfolk – Residents in some Norfolk neighborhoods may still experience delays in their refuse and recycling collections. Most collection routes have been delayed by only one day. It is anticipated that the majority of collection routes will be back on schedule within the next few weeks.
The citizens of Norfolk have experienced collection delays more frequently than usual this winter due to unusual events, such as multiple snow storms and the tragic accident of a long term employee. Additionally, since the safety of our employees and citizens is our highest priority, the City has made a decision to hold our collection vehicles to a higher safety standard, resulting in more vehicles than usual being taken out of service for maintenance.
The City understands the frustrations expressed by our residents; we also appreciate our residents’ patience as we work aggressively to get back to our normal collection schedule. The City is exploring a variety of ways to resolve the issues surrounding our collection delays. In the meantime, our dedicated Waste Management employees continue to work beyond their normal work hours with a reduced vehicle fleet to get the collection schedule caught up.
Residents are asked to put their containers at the curb on their regular collection day and leave them curbside until the refuse and/or recycling has been collected. In most cases, if there is a delay, it will be collected on the next day. For more updated information, please visit http://www.norfolk.gov or call 757-441-5813.
